DE ZOGENAAMDE `KLEINE WERKEN' VAN DE H. BONAVENTURA

Bonaventura (1221-1274) trad op 22-jarige leeftijd in in de orde der franciscanen. In 1273 werd hij benoemd tot kardinaal. Hij was zowel theoloog als mysticus. Net als de geschriften van Bernardus hebben ook de boeken van Bonaventura grote invloed uitgeoefend op de moderne devoten. Bonaventura heeft, als navolger van Franciscus, het methodisch overdenken van het lijden van Christus ingevoerd. De houtsnede toont Christus als de `Boom des Levens' met aan weerszijden Bonaventura en Franciscus. Het boek is afkomstig uit het Heer Florishuis te Deventer, een communiteit van de Broeders des Gemenen Levens.
