Vincentius a Paolo is de beschermheilige van alle werken van naastenliefde. Naar deze Franse pastoor wordt de vereniging genoemd die zich in de negentiende eeuw in Parijs gaat toeleggen op de zorg voor noodlijdende mensen. In 1846 krijgt ook Nederland een eigen Vincentiusvereniging. Vincentius wordt gewoonlijk afgebeeld met een kind op de arm.
