Altaar

Op deze stralende panelen speelt Maria een prominente rol. Voor Van Heukelum zijn ze een buitenkans. De panelen waren onderdeel van een verder verdwenen altaarstuk. In Nederland is zoiets niet te krijgen; bij de Beeldenstorm in de zestiende eeuw zijn stukken als deze verloren gegaan. Hij koopt de panelen in Keulen, bij een bejaarde priester die van zijn collectie af wil. Ze zijn vanwege hun kwaliteit én zeldzaamheid het hoogtepunt van Van Heukelums collectie.

Description
Bij de zwevende engel boven in het beeld de opschriften: Ite in iudeam ubi / nascit rex iudeor[um] (Gaat naar Judea waar de koning van de joden is geboren). De mantel van de morenkoning is versierd met banden met exotische lettertekens.
